Main Logos, Alternate Logos, And Special Occasion Logos
Many companies, like us here at FXV Digital Design, don’t just have one logo. This is common for most companies to have a primary or main logo, and then alternative versions or variations.
Main logos are the primary visual representation of your brand and is typically used in most applications, such as your website, business cards, and marketing materials. This should be what people think of immediately when they think of your company. The main logo doesn’t just relate to the design of the logo, but the color as well.
Alternate logos are variations of the main logo that can be used in specific situations or contexts. They can vary in the design and layout as well as the color of your logo. For example, at FXV Digital Design, we have our main logo and then 3 alternate logos that we use for shirts, marketing materials, and promotional materials where our main logo doesn’t fit or doesn’t make sense.
Pro-Tip: It’s important to have your main and alternate logos shown in your brand guideline or brand kit. This will outline how to use the logos properly as well as what colors the logos should be in.
Special occasion logos are what we call the alternate logos we make for a specific event. Milestones and business anniversaries are a great time to have a refresh of your logo during just that time period. When we had our 10th anniversary at FXV Digital Design, we made a special 10th-anniversary logo variation just used during that year. These types of alternate logos are used as a one off for a set period of time. That makes them different from an alternative logo that is evergreen and can be used during any timeframe.
Having alternate logos can provide flexibility and versatility in how you present your brand across different platforms and mediums. Even though you have alternate versions of your main logo, it’s important to ensure that all variations of your logo maintain a consistent visual identity and are recognizable as part of your brand. Having an alternate logo that doesn’t represent your brand visibility can confuse customers and cause a decline in credibility if they are unable to tell it is your business.
Reflect Your Brand

Logos like ours don’t always work for companies unless their is either an IRL or fictitious face of the brand that reflects the values of your company.
